About Me

My name is Brian Mahoney.  I am an English teacher at Westford Academy in Westford,  Massachusetts.  I have been teaching in Westford for the past eight years.  Prior to teaching in Westford, I taught English at Scituate High School in Scituate, MA for three years.  Currently, I teach Grade 11 Honors English, Grade 12 Honors English, Grade 12 College Prep English, and a Film and Literature course elective at the high school.  The following is a picture of a class trip I took with my Grade 11 Honors Class to Walden Pond; I am fourth from the right:

My family and I live in Concord, Massachusetts.  My wife, Caroline, and I have two beautiful daughters.  They bring us so much joy in life.  My oldest daughter just "graduated" from kindergarten this year.  We spend our weekends playing soccer, swimming, attending birthday parties, and living the American suburban dream.

Prior to teaching I attended the University of Massachusetts for my undergraduate degree and then I received my masters degree from Tufts University.  I received a great education from both institutions where my passion for reading, writing and analytical discourse was encouraged and nurtured.  My favorite writing / reading material comes from the Modernist era.  I love reading the works of Fitzgerald, Hemingway, and others.  There is something about that Lost Generation that intrigues me.  That is why one of my favorite movies is A Midnight in Paris.

Aside from reading and writing,  I love the summer season and the ocean.  I wish I lived by the sea in New England year round, even during the harsh winter months.  I spend a lot of time during the summer in Maine and on the Cape and the islands.  I enjoy surfing, water sports, and the occasional deep sea fishing excursion.
